习语：a bachelor girl

讲解：Bachelor通常是指“未婚男子”，即“单身汉”，但是与girl连用时就是指“未婚女人”了，此语特指“不依靠别人，自己维持生活的女人”。目前，在英美国家，指“未婚职业妇女”，与汉语口语中的“女强人”有相似之处。

英语情景对话：

A: Do you know Sally?

你知道Sally吗？

B: Sally. She is a bachelor girl. She is an excellent designer. Many of the company's advertisements are her child trains.

Sally? 她是个未婚职业妇女。她是个很棒的设计师。公司很多广告都是她的杰作。

A: Why is she still single? She must have a face that would stop clock.

为什么她还是单身呢？她一定是长得很丑。

B: Oh, quite the other way round. She is a knock-out. She devotes much of her time to her career.

哦，刚还相反，她很漂亮。她注重事业了。

英语学习笔记：

1.child train （比喻）处女作；杰作

Sb has a face that would stop a clock. （One's face would stop a clock.）某人极为丑陋。

Eg. You can hardly imagine that a handsome man like Li Tong would marry a girl like Sun Li who has a face that would stop the clock.

你真不敢想象李通这样英俊的小伙子竟然和丑无比的孙丽结了婚。

2.knock-out 非常漂亮引人注目的人（用来指女性）

Eg. She is gorgeous, a total knock-out with a killer body and she's just my dream girl.

她是绝世的美女，身材惹火，简直就是我的梦中情人。

3.devote to 把 ... 献于, 把 ... 用于

Eg. The time he can spare from the adornment of his person he devote to the neglect of his duty.

他把花在打扮上的时间省下来，却用到了玩忽职守上去。

4.Quite the other way round. 完全相反。

这是个省略句。完整的句子为——It is the other way round. 这正好想法。加上quite，就是完全相反。
