“发信息”不是send message

发信息老外直接说text sb.

就是给某人留言

例：

I'll text you as soon as I get home.

我一到家就给你发信息。

Text me when you arrive.

到了就给我发信息。

不管微信、短信

这些消息都可以用text

想强调用“微信”就说

text me on WeChat

“送礼物”≠send a present

首先send的用法是没错的

send sb sth 或 send sth to sb

送某人某物

但是这个“送”和我们中文的“送”是有区别的

来看一个例子

他送了我一份礼物。

He sent me a present.✘

He gave me a present.✔

正确的表达应该是：give sb a present

因为send 所指的送其实是：寄送，传送

除非礼物是邮寄或由专人送去的

否则就不能用这个词

而give本身就有“赠送”的意思

打败某人，突然解雇某人

例：

I sent my enemy packing.

我打败了我的对手。

I couldn't stand him anymore, so I sent him packing.

提前做好准备

例：

We sent ahead for room reservations at the hotel.

我们提前订好了酒店房间。

I will send ahead for a uber to meet us at the station.

我会提前叫一辆uber在车站等我们。

例：

My ex-girlfriend has accused me of sending mixed messages about our relationship, as if I'm trying to get back together with her.
